Yoga for Healthy Backs

Most people will suffer from back ache at some point in their life, whether you spend a lot of your time sat at a desk or standing on your feet, have poor posture or are recovering after a mild injury. During this workshop we will work to release the back with forward bends and twists, support the lower back by strengthening core muscles and free up chest and shoulders with gentle back bends. Yoga postures for all, beginners welcome, although if you are suffering from a serious back problem and find it difficult to lie or sit on the floor, please contact us first.

Mindful Lives

My name is Claire-Louise and I have been teaching Scaravelli inspired hatha yoga classes in Bristol since 2006.

I see yoga as more of an art form than a form of exercise. If we can engage our curiosity whilst moving with the breath, then yoga, like music, is like experimenting with the melody, tone, volume and pitch of the body.

In this way our practice can become more like a meditative dance where the breath, body, and mind are interconnected and we become more in tune with ourselves, each other, and the world around us.

Through exploring our bodies in this way, we can truly know ourselves and connect with the world in a more authentic, peaceful and joyful way.

The body can begin to heal itself from pain and disease that results from continued stress and strain and we can become truly in tune with ourselves.

I have taught both children and adults in a variety of settings and would like to see yoga becoming part of mainstream education.

I currently teach classes at the Wild Goose Space in St Werburghs as well as in schools and at my home in Eastville.

I am qualified in Pregnancy Yoga and Thai Yoga Massage.

I have been practising yoga since 2000, initially studying with an Iyengar teacher. In 2005, I discovered the hatha yoga style taught by the Inner Yoga Trust (Scaravelli inspired approach) and I trained with them as a yoga teacher and then yoga therapist so now practice both Mindful Yoga and Restorative Yoga.

I have also taught in Bali and at numerous festivals and community events.

I am currently studying Vedic Chanting with my yoga teacher Sarah Waterfield.

I have completed training to teach Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction / Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy training with Bangor University Teacher Training Programme and am a recognised Mindfulness Practitioner that follows the UK Good Practice Guidelines (BAMBA).

In addition I deliver an adapted MBSR course (called Stressbusting for Parents/Carers) to vulnerable parents as a way of supporting them to reconnect with themselves as parents, their children and other family members.

I have trained as a facilitator in a number of parenting courses and have worked in a supportive role with families since 2004, particularly supporting women who have experienced domestic abuse and violence.
