Fluid Spine - A Backbending Yoga workshop

Why attend a yoga workshop?
As an addition to your regular practice, a workshop gives you the chance to delve deeper into your practice, to discover the potential of your body and to learn more about yoga and how it can help in your life. Like a yoga class, workshops are for everyone. They are designed to allow you to explore postures and the body in greater depth.
Typically focused around a particular theme, a workshop will look closely at anatomy, alignment and any other key elements of that particular theme.
My workshops provide a safe environment to practice, ask questions, make mistakes and advance a little along the learning journey that is your yoga practice.

Fluid Spine - A Backbending Yoga workshop, £20 earlybird (until 1st October), £25 thereafter, 3:15 - 5:45pm on Saturday the 19th of November
To book your ticket please visit my website: www.sarah.yoga

This workshop will give you a strong foundation from which to explore backbends safely and more confidently. Whatever your level of mobility or experience you will find this workshop invigorating and challenging as you build the know-how to deepen and advance your backbend practice in a safe and supported environment.

The spine is literally the backbone for our life activities, therefore it is essential to our health and happiness to maintain fluidity and mobility in this area of the body. Many practitioners often feel fearful when contemplating such postures that require us to lean back into something we can’t necessarily see…emotionally, physically and energetically there can be a lot to process. We will work gradually and mindfully, exploring where we might feel tentative, and allowing the time to address any resistance.

The workshop will start with a vinyasa flow practice to help awaken the body. We’ll move through a flowing series of poses designed to liberate the spine, shoulders and hips, before delving into some deeper backbending work.

By bringing detailed attention to all the key parts of the body associated with backbends and heart opening (as well as how to connect them all together) you will learn valuable tools to sustain and support a continued practice of backbends in a healthy way, with anatomical awareness.

Students will…

1. Learn how to use the flow of breath to take you deeper into postures

2. Gain an understanding of the basic anatomy of the spine + other parts of the body related to backbending

3. Learn how to prepare the various areas of your body for backbends

4. Learn how to perform backbends safely and effectively

5. Get the opportunity to play with some more advanced poses in a safe environment

This workshop is best suited to students who have at least 6 months of regular yoga practice under their belt. If you’re a complete beginner and are interested in joining, please email me to discuss.

I have a friendly and supportive teaching style and all my classes are suitable for a variety of levels, with modifications offered according to the needs of each student. Beginners are always welcomed!

For me as a teacher it's really important to focus on alignment, so I ensure that plenty of instruction and help is given to all students to help them find a journey through the poses and practice that is safe, effective and suitable for them.

I put great care into planning my classes, designing interesting and enjoyable sequences that help students learn more about yoga and to progress their practice whether it be on the physical, mental or spiritual level.

A key component of my classes and style of teaching is to make a vinyasa flow style of yoga accessible to a wide audience! We don't need to do ton's of Chaturanga's and Upward Dog's to enjoy a flowing practice, plus there are plenty of wonderful modifications and movement options that can be explored to replace or swap out these movements.

Through guidance and support I will help you work on your strength and flexibility where you need it most!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been practising yoga for over 10 years, during which time it’s transformed my life, mind and body. I have experience with many different styles of yoga having practiced Hatha, Ashtanga, Jivamukti and Hot Yoga, but the style that I connected with most was that of Vinyasa Flow which is predominantly what I teach.

I enjoy inspiring others in their yoga practice, whilst recognising that everyone’s journey in yoga is different and it is important to accommodate this when teaching.

In terms of my yoga studies: I completed my 200-hour teacher training qualification at Shakti Power Yoga in Hammersmith in 2014 and I’m a registered teacher with Yoga Alliance UK. This accreditation demonstrates excellent standards as set by Yoga Alliance UK.
Since completing that training I have continued my professional development, predominantly focusing on the study of anatomy and how to move the body safely through a yoga practice. I am well versed in how to modify a range of poses, and how to help individual students find more ease and comfort in postures that challenge them.
