Ashtanga Vinyasa Beginners Workshop - Deepen Your Practice.
With Tanya Rajfeld
In this 2 hour workshop we will explore some basic steps of the primary series of the Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga system taught in the traditional way. The aim of this mini workshop is to provide an introduction to Ashtanga Vinyasa and to deconstruct some of poses for those who are more experienced.
We'll start with a basic warm up (which can be used at home), explore Pranayama (breathing) and discuss why counting the breath throughout the practice is important in Ashtanga yoga and how it can also be used as a tool in your daily life. We will progress through the physical practice of the Primary Series, including the closing sequence and incorporating the use of the traditional counting method.
We'll then break down the movement, particularly the Vinyasa in the sun salutations - also known as Suryanamaskar A and B - to help you understand the importance of foundation, alignment and the use of the bandhas. Finishing up with the traditional chant and some well deserved relaxation!
Suitable for those new to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and also Ashtanga students wanting to delve deeper into the Primary series.
