We will awaken the inner activity of the feet which can often improve knee, hip, lower back and may other complaints even as far away as the neck. There are not many ‘local‘ parts of the body that can have such a ‘global’ influence. Feet are like a dynamic that when missing gravity becomes a mystery and our core elusive.Feet stimulate our body’s ability to stand & sit upright ... (more info)(less info)

The natural functioning of the pelvic floor is essential for stability of the pelvis (including the Sacro-Iliac joint) and lower back, proper functioning of the organs of the pelvis including the bladder and urine control. It plays an essential part in the ease of upright posture in sitting, walking, standing, in many movements and supports carrying. Many people can be locked in a pattern of use, such as a tucked under pelvis or tight anus, which inhibits a natural functioning of the pelvic floor. The way we use the feet and perception is nature’s way to engage the pelvic floor, this is like switching on our natural ‘core support’. In yoga we call this Mula Bandha although it is often misinterpreted and over contrived. Simply becoming more clear about this part of the body can have a far reaching influence on the body and psyche. The pelvic floor is one of the most intimate parts ... (more info)(less info)

This is an opportunity to practice meditation on a more regular basis, to develop the basic skills and deepen the experience. The meditation workshops can be followed as a series (recommended!) and are also accessible as single workshops. Traditionally, the goal of yoga is ‘to slow down and calm the movements of the mind’.…so we can realise who we really are. We will practice yoga postures to create space, ease and alertness in the body as a preparation for sitting meditation. Using simple meditation techniques, mostly from Tibetan Buddhism, we will practice down to earth skills, such as being present and developing an attitude of friendliness toward oneself.During the winter yogayoga will offer four meditation workshops in ... When we create a change in our bodies without this in mind, the original state can easily return. For example we can spend a lifetime stretching the hamstrings and they then return to the same shortened state through an old pattern of usage; a stretched hamstring is not necessarily an intelligent one. Through exploring a shift in perception and our relationship to the space around us, we will create the possibility for a more lasting change and a more immediate integration. This has the added benefit of stimulating the core support that enables us to be upright, move with ease, and provide the stabilisation that many back pain sufferers have difficulty with. The way we meet the world, in other words our ... The digestive tract can also provide a much needed support for the spine, in evolutionary terms we had a gut before we developed our bony skeleton. In many ways the ‘contents’ (organs) and ‘container’ (muscles & bones) are mutually supportive. Embodiment with the support of this body system can put you in touch with a powerful steadiness and grounding.Discover how the body contents, the organs, can provide support ... The fluids provide support for the joints to move more easily, support for the nervous system, they are the information carriers of the body, our most essential breath - the breathing of the cell involves the movement of fluid, the list is endless. We will explore how getting in touch with our fluids can free up habitual movements, de-stress, enliven postures, support the breath, support movement sequencing through body, rejuvenate and most of all be a lot of fun. In fact the glands are part of the neuro-endocrine system, so they are intricately linked with the nervous system, many major glands are situated close to important nerve clusters. This means, for example, that they are part of the fight-flight mechanism. Glands produce hormones and so influence our moods and energy levels. Some of the most important yoga postures are designed to help stabilise and balance the glands, e.g. helping with mood swings and gradually transforming habitual (mood-) patterns. Many glands, or energy centres, are situated close to the spine, so energising these centres can also give support to the spine. In yoga we focus on the relationship between the glands, on grounding their energy and its expression in the space. Through freeing and redirecting energy which can be caught in the system, working with the glands can be inspirational. Chakras 1 will focus more on the lower body while Chakras 2 will concentrate more on the upper body. The workshops are recommended as a pair, but can also be followed separately. The glands are a modern way to explain the Chakras ... (more info)(less info)

We will practice a series of postures designed to create space, relieve tension and above all to integrate. We will address more specifically areas of the spine that tend to need more stabilisation, such as the Sacro-Iliac joint, or mobilisation, like the upper back. Even if you do not suffer from any back pain this workshop can be useful, not only as a preventative measure but, since the spine supports many other functions of the body, to improve general co-ordination and bring more ease of movement. When the spine is integrated into a whole many problems ... Developmental movement patterns, such as those we experience in learning to crawl and which draw upon our evolutionary past, can help to get a clear experience of the essence of yoga postures. The patterns give support in transitioning into or between postures. Essentially they help to find the co-ordination that underlies a freedom and clarity of movement in daily life. Our bodies have an enormous richness of evolutionary development to ... As well as a dialogue with one’s own body there is the dialogue with one’s partner. Through this dialogue, partner yoga evokes the qualities of curiosity, listening and trust giving the opportunity to experience and share yoga in a new way. All of these qualities are also a great teaching for self practice. Many postures are done suspended in the air and so use gravity as a tool or are more like flying. This can be playful, refreshing and fun. Some experience of yoga will be very helpful and enable you to get the most out of it.Partner yoga encourages a receptivity and spacious awareness that is ...
