Mum & Baby Yoga

Post Natal Yoga
Mum & Baby from 6/10 weeks
Classes Held
Yoga Jo’s Milngavie, Glasgow Thursday 12.00
Postnatal yoga focuses on bringing structural integrity back to your body, helping to realign the spine and pelvis. Common problems such as back pain are relieved, and you will also learn breath awareness and relaxation techniques, which help to increase energy. We focus on the abdominals – core and back strength gently persuading the body in its recovery. We get to know our babies and build confidence and through gentle baby yoga moves we help create a nurturing and fun environment for them to thrive.

Babies benefit from gentle yoga postures with songs and laughter, it’s a fun class that is fully inclusive for both Mum and Baby. Class can be commenced from 6-10 weeks post delivery and you can remain in class for as long as you wish.

Heather Burns Yoga

I first took up yoga many moons ago when I was 17, and an aspiring dancer, to develop and stretch my body. And despite developing a really good physical yoga practice at a young age, the true effects and spiritual benefits of yoga never really took hold. I practiced on and off for many years after .

However after a serious car crash and the unexpected death of my father 10 days later, it was at this point I used yoga as rehabilitation to my damaged body and broken soul. Through having a wonderful inspiring teacher I was gently able to incorporate pranayama (yogic breathing) to help release tension in recovering muscles and I believed this helped release the tension in my overwhelmed mind and gradually helped knit my broken heart back together.

The beautiful moment which led me to the journey of teaching was when pregnant with my second son. Being slightly restricted by a growing bump the purpose of yoga came to me while sitting in a pregnancy yoga class. I wasn’t in that room to be the bendiest person in there and the purpose was not to work my body into beautiful shapes and asanas . I was there just to be as I was in that Moment. Fully aware of my breath my body and the response of my growing little person in that time. In stillness I found what I needed.

Yoga brought me comforting awareness to my changing body and the growing life in me as well as releasing the aches and pains that can sometimes accompany making a whole new wee person.
Through pregnancy Ive seen yoga in a different light, its empowered me with tools and techniques that even now my children who are their own little practicing yogis – still benefit from today.
In my prenatal classes I aim for an all inclusive safe yet effective informative yoga practice – whether new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, the classes endeavour to inspire and bring empowerment to the student.

I currently hold A 200 hour teaching Certificate in Hatha Yoga Specialising specifically in the Perinatal and postnatal period and have been teaching Pre Natal Yoga both in Glasgow and Edinburgh for the last three years amassing many hours experience and assisting hundreds of mums into their journey of motherhood.

In recent years Ashtanga has been my practice of choice

More recently I have had the honour of furthering my teachings with John Scott & Lucy Crawford Scott and completed a further 200hours Formally Accredited Ashtanga Teacher training with them. Including training from David Keil and Greg Nardi.

With (almost) daily practice and ongoing student relationship with Joanne Lockhart and Rowena Warren I will endeavour to continue these beautiful teachings in the traditional manner. I wish to thank Yoga Jo ( Joanne Lockhart), Ro, Lucy and John for sharing your bountiful and inspired teachings sharing your knowledge and for your continued friendship and support.
